Signs

Signs. They are all around us. Some are subtle, like the lights in a darkened theater that lead the way to the exit. Others are glaring and bright: the lighted sign that points to the freeway on-ramp, or the bright neon sign that means the donuts are hot and fresh. The Apostle John writes about a series of events that he calls "signs." Jesus' other biographers call them miracles. But not John. While miracles point to Jesus' power, these signs reveal Jesus' identity. These events are miracles, to be sure. People are healed. Food miraculously appears. But they're more than just miracles, because, with each event, he reveals more of who he is. Jesus isn't just a miracle worker; He is the light of God come into a dark world.
