MEETING JESUS
We’re so familiar with Jesus that the stories of his life are, by and large, unsurprising. But when you examine Jesus’ actions in his first-century context he doesn’t do what you expect a rabbi to do. His actions are often shocking, confronting his contemporaries’ societal and spiritual expectations. He includes the outcasts and restores the broken. He accepts those who are ashamed and brings into community those who are on the margins. The powerful are humbled and the least-of-all are elevated. When someone meets Jesus their lives are changed. When someone meets Jesus the encounter is too powerful to be disregarded. He was either hated or embraced, rejected or respected, but rarely ignored. And here’s the thing: that is still the case today. When people meet Jesus, they are changed.
