Christmas Presence

For most people, Christmas is all about the presents beneath the tree. But shouldn’t it be about the Presence beneath the heavens? The indwelling of God among his people? God’s incarnational presence is so much more than just a reason to shower gifts on loved ones. It’s so much more than spending money you don’t have to buy gifts you can’t afford to impress people you might not even like. Christmas is the celebration of God come to earth. It’s the recognition that the real gifts we celebrate each December can’t be purchased and packaged in wrapping paper and tinsel. The real gifts – love, joy, peace, and hope come from the Father. And though we love the food and the carols and even the cheesy Christmas movies, what we really need this year is to remember that Christmas isn’t about the presents; its about the gifts.
