Collision

The idea of a “Christian” culture is a relatively new one. Aside from a handful of places during the Reformation, Christianity has generally existed in opposition to the prevailing culture. For better of for worse, during most of our nation’s history, faith and culture have paralleled each another. But in recent decades the tension between faith and culture has grown dramatically. In instances where faith and culture collide, followers of Jesus find themselves increasingly marginalized as they try to be “in the world but not of the world.” How can believers respond to people who disdain Christianity, and portray it as out of touch and irrelevant to our modern world? People are asking difficult questions, giving today’s believer an opportunity as s/he engages in dialogue at the intersection of faith and culture, pointing the way to Jesus.
